Haddonfield Area Lions Club President Joyce Albrecht offered the following eulogy in honor of fellow club member John C. Stokes:

Fellow Lions, we gather on the occasion of the passing of our Beloved Lion, John Stokes of the Haddonfield Lions Club, who has been one with us in serving the needs of our community and of mankind.

Our hearts are saddened by his passing, but our sadness is tempered by our gratitude, for it has been our privilege to be associated with him in humane service. Lion Stokes was a devoted worker and a man of character. He was sincere and dedicated. He worked with us in serving worthy causes. He shared our ideals, our purpose, and our dedication. And he exemplified the spirit of Lionism by extending a helping hand to the unfortunate and the needy.

As we bid farewell to our fellow-Lion, we express our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends, and we pay our tribute of respect and friendship to his memory in words which he, in unison with his fellow-Lions, acknowledged and offered in the recitation of our Lions’ Toast

“NOT ABOVE YOU — NOT BENEATH YOU — BUT WITH YOU”
