Mayor's Breakfast and

Citizen of the Year Award

Each year the Haddonfield Lion's Club sponsors the annual Haddonfield "Mayor's Breakfast" and facilitates the selection of Haddonfield's Citizen of the Year, who is announced at the breakfast. Community members can purchase breakfast, cooked and served by the Lions, and hear the Mayor's annual "State of the Borough" address recapping the previous years highlights in Haddonfield. The Citizen of the Year is named at the end of the address, usually preceeded by a series of "hints" about who the person may be. As the hints become more specific about the honorees contributions to Haddonfield, the audience eventually figures out who has been selected. Please scroll down to see all the past honorees.

The Lions Club does not choose the Citizen of the Year honoree. They solicit nominations from community volunteer organizations and citizens, through letters to the organizations and through announcements in the local press. They then invite the Mayor and a committee of community representatives (who change each year) to brunch to review the nominations and select the recipient.

The costs associated with the event, such as the plaque, boutineers and meals for past honorees, postage, etc., are covered by the Lions as one of their many community service projects. The Lions are proud to be able to continue this long tradition. Because our motto is "We Serve" we are pleased that we can help honor a fellow community volunteer each year.
